The first meet of the South Wales Pinball League got off to a strong start attracting 28 eager players. It was a great turnout and created a lively atmosphere throughout the hall, with machines in constant play and plenty of friendly banter. Seeing so many players take part in the first meet was a great sign for the league going forward.
The tournament format itself was familiar to most players, so the focus of the day was really on putting our new league software through its first proper test. Players used their phones to take photos of the score displays on the machines and submit their results directly through the system. Once uploaded, the scores were entered into the database and placements were calculated automatically. Which made it all the more exciting to see you postion jump up after a good game.
The system performed well overall and proved that the concept works in a real tournament environment. Scores were updated quickly and standings appeared on the big screens in the hall, allowing everyone to see how the competition was developing throughout the day. As expected with a first live run, we also learned a lot that will help us improve and refine the system for future events.
And of course, no tournament would be complete without some good food. Many players made the most of the break between games to grab something to eat, with the chilli puffs proving to be particularly popular. Between the games, the food, and the great turnout, it made for a brilliant first meet and a strong start for the league.
